Fatherhood

Please, is there a manual for Fatherhood?
Blog #3

The many challenges and obstacles that we face throughout life is nothing compared to the awesome task we have of parenting and raising our children. The challenges of taking our children from birth into adulthood is truly a GIFT that we receive in life that will challenge us to the core but will shine brightly into our life and will continue to give over and over as we receive fulfillment and joy of the experiences. We will grow as individuals and partners as we go through these times and the strength we gain will be unreal.  It is truly a time of magical growth within our lives.

I have the pleasure to speak at a conference in the upcoming future on the topic of Fatherhood so I have spent a lot of time reflecting back upon a few realities that I have learned during the past 30 years as a father. I remember that we experienced many trying times along the journey and it forced me many times to keep asking myself, “Is there a parent’s manual to raise these kids?” I knew that we were just going to have to do the best job we could with the knowledge we had at the current time and learn from both the successes and failures we were going to endure. It turned out to be a “real growth experience,” for both the children and parents. This was simply the reality of being parents.

The first lesson in reality that we learned is that the child’s most important teacher was not in the school they attended but in the home under the guidance of US the parents. WOW, what an awesome responsibility and privilege. We quickly discovered that we were to model positive and uplifting behaviors and actions for the children. These tasks turned out to be very tough and challenging but we were able to “fail forward” as we grew stronger spiritually, emotionally, and personally as we met these challenges.

NEXT WEEK- We will continue with more realities learned from Fatherhood.
